How to tie a leash to your main line Fishing

At the moment, there are a large number of ways to tie a leash to your main line, because each fisherman with experience develops his own skills in this matter, depending on his needs and preferences. However, most beginners have no idea where to start and how to properly tie a leash to the main line for the first time.

Fortunately, there are several basic and fairly simple ways to do this, which are suitable for almost any occasion.

Knots and foundations

The basis of a good connection of the leash with the main line is the right knots and often experienced fishermen choose one of the four basic ones.

So, the verified ones include:

  • Improved fisherman's knot;
  • Loop-in-loop method;
  • The leash is attached with a swivel;
  • Snake knot for attaching several leashes to the main fishing line.

The names are unlikely to give something new to this business, who do not even know how to fix it all in practice, so it's worth taking a closer look at each of the types. But they all fit pretty easily.

And it is important to remember that even a well-attached leash to the fishing line can break or cause other troubles because the latter lose almost a quarter of its strength in water, and if the side leash was poorly attached to the main line, this figure can double.

Therefore, it is important to learn how to do it correctly in order to avoid losing bait and catch.

And yet, how to properly attach the leash to the main line? And how do they do it wrong? And how to check the quality of connected nodes? And can this knowledge be used for spinners?

Fisherman's knot

Often they are crocheted on the main line and they are owned even by those who took the bait only a few times in their lives. Simplicity and practicality allow you to use this technique in almost all cases of life, and even if you don’t know how, you can learn in just a few attempts. Well, and most importantly, there is no need to use a braid or other aids, so you can attach the leash right on the spot in a few seconds, and in this way, it resembles a swivel knot. So how to tie a fishing line and check if the snaps are attached to the quality?

To do this, you just need to follow these steps in sequence:

  • Before tying, position two lines one parallel to the other, then wrap the one on the leash around the rod and pull it slightly up.
  • Next, the end of the fishing line from the leash must be drawn into the loop that has formed and repeated several times.
  • In the end, we simply tighten the structure made and tie the leash in this way.
  • Then repeat the same in a mirror image for the fishing line and as a result, the structures are tied, and you will get a strong knot that will never untie itself. All gear will be well secured.

This method is called “improved” due to the fact that in the usual way to attach leashes to the main line, they do the same thing, only without the last point. He, in turn, is more of a reinsurance than a necessity, but experienced fishermen are quite superstitious and once again secure for them never seems like a bad idea.

It is also one of the basic tying techniques. And it is used when attaching hooks.

Loop on a loop tie

The fishing knot, of course, saves in many situations, but what to do when there are two types of fishing lines, how do tie the second one so that there are no incidents? For such cases, there is a “Loop in a loop” method, which can connect any type to each other, even if it is monofilament or fluorocarbon.

And most importantly, for which this method is often used, they can quickly and easily attach metal leashes to the main fishing lines without the risk of “wearing” the material. This is the most popular method of tying knots in such cases and is sometimes referred to as the "extra step figure eight".

It is executed as follows:

  • First of all, you need to bend the ends of the lines twice.
  • Next, using the loop that turned out, make a few turns at its base.
  • We stretch the same loop into the first round and tie it tightly enough.
  • When two such knots are obtained both at the leash and at the rod, it is enough to connect them, and they will firmly hold the resulting structure. The rig connected in this way will hold firmly in place.

No matter how simple the last point sounds, it is at this stage that many make a mistake because for the correct connection it is necessary to bring the main fishing line to the leash and thread the loop into the leash with it, then draw the end of the latter and secure.

The first time you will not succeed very well, but over time you can even get used to attach an additional leash. But it is much easier to use the same fourth knot for this if you are not dealing with several different types of lines, otherwise, you can choose according to your skills.

Over time, you will find many schemes for fixing the structure in such a situation, but this one is the simplest and most popular, many famous athletes also tie gear with it.

The same method is well suited for winter fishing when there is a need for a braid. A rig tied in this way will last a long time even at low temperatures.

How To Tie Swivel To The Main Line

But how do the leashes of the side leashes tied to the main fishing lines?

During the installation of lead leashes, it is customary to place sinkers closer to the end of the rod line (very often a braided variety is used for this), and the leash itself is attached a little higher by 20 cm. In this case, fishing looks like this: side lead leashes never hang parallel, but are always fixed perpendicular to the main lines and, as a rule, are located at a short distance from them.

The main advantage of knitting leashes in this way is that the equipment almost never gets confused when casting and leash, which saves you a lot of time and nerves. as reliable as an accessory.

And besides this, the likelihood that the design will get confused after all your efforts is minimized, if not leveled at all. So how to tie a leash so that it does not get tangled?

For this you need:

  1. In order to tie the leash to the main line, first attach the swivel to it.
  2. Correctly position the sinker below it.
  3. Use a fishing knot to attach the lug of the leader line opposite the rod.
  4. Check the strength of the attached rig.

What if you need to tie multiple leashes?

There are times when it is necessary to connect 2 or 3 leashes to one fishing line at once, and knots for tying like the “eight” are not suitable or seem rather unstable for such a situation. And how to tie a side leash then? In order to connect them in a small amount, you can use "snake" knots.

The people called them simply "bloody" and in order not to find out why this is so, one should follow simple safety precautions when weaving them, as well as in general when fixing any equipment. However, such fishing knots are often used in such difficult situations. So how to tie multiple leashes?

For two gears you need:

  1. Similar to the arrangement for the fishing knot, lay down the red line and the leader line.
  2. Next, "wrapping" one fishing line with another, make it the end of 2-3 turns.
  3. With the other, repeat the same and pass the ends of the lines through the twist that was formed in the first. It remains to tighten and this will be the very “snake” knot.

When using such a knot, several protruding ends of the lines are obtained, one of them is a rod and two leads. If two leashes are enough for you, then the extra end is easily cut off. This method allows you to tie the leash to any type of fishing line, however, when bonding a homogeneous and knitted fishing line, inconvenience may arise. They can also be delivered by a metal leash, which is easier to attach second with a fishing knot if you use different types at the same time.

The main advantage of such fasteners is that you can knit any knots to attach additional gear, which allows you to combine the methods of rigging and rod tying that you like the most.

Each of the mounting methods listed above is quite simple, and you can select one that best suits your everyday fishing situations and which will be easier for you to get used to. After you memorize at least one of them, the question of “how to tie a lure to a fishing line?” will immediately leave you. But how to make sure that the spinners to the fishing line, along with the leashes, are always firmly and reliably attached?

This can only be achieved with hours of practice and hard work. After all, 90 percent of your confidence when knitting knots comes from experience.

It is also worth remembering that the fishing line tends to shrink depending on the number of degrees outside, so you should tie the structure very carefully if you go fishing in winter. Remember, if the knot is tied badly, it can ruin the whole fishing!
