Best Feeder hooks, overview and recommendations
12 min read
I decided to devote a new review of feeder hooks gear to a small but very sharp part of feeder equipment - hooks. Let’s try to figure out which feeder hooks to use, whether there are special feeder hooks at all, or whether is it an invention of marketers.
We will also consider several main, most commonly used series from the leading manufacturer’s Owner, Kamasan, Gamakatsu, and Mustad.
Brief Introduction to the topic
In any type of fishing, it is the hook that gets the most accusations and complaints when a fish comes off or a single bite. Either it turns out that it is too big and scares away the fish, then it is too small and is not able to hold, for example, a bunch of worms. The hook can straighten out when playing with the fish, it can simply tear the fish’s lip, or, most often, it turns out to be blunt.
Let’s leave out the manufacturer and the quality of the wire for now, but let’s ask ourselves: what should be the hook for the feeder? What is the difference between feeders and non-feeder? Should it be round? With a spatula or a ring? Should it be with a curved sting? And where to? To the side or inside?… - These questions can be asked not only by the feeders but also by any other fisherman.
And the rule here is this: feeder hooks , like any other, we first of all choose in accordance with the nozzle or bait we are going to catch.
If we catch dung worms in a bunch, then the hook should be convenient to put them on (for example, No. 6-10 according to European numbering), for bloodworms, the thickness of the wire already plays an important role, and in the case when we catch on dough or porridge, you can use hooks with a spiral for better grip. It turns out that the special hook for the feeder is the one that is tied to the feeder gear.
If the packaging says that the hooks are designed specifically for the feeder, this does not mean that it is necessary to use them for feeder fishing. And this inscription does not mean that they are not suitable for fishing with boilies or a spring.
You need to choose high-quality products and those that are suitable for a particular fishing. And this is the correspondence of the hooks to the nozzle or bait used and the correspondence of the intended fish. The bait should correspond to the taste preferences of this very intended fish.
And then there are already more subtle, but no less important selection criteria:
- manufacturing firm,
- the form,
- wire thickness,
- color,
- the length of the forearm and so on, and this is a matter of practice and the personal preferences of the fisherman.
It must be remembered that the small size in combination with a thin leader line increases the number of bites. The more fishing pressure on the pond, the more relevant this rule is.
And yet, from the whole variety of hooks offered, some models are most popular for fishing on the feeder. My experience and communication with brothers in feeder fishing allowed us to make a selection of the most popular feeder hooks from leading manufacturers Owner, Kamasan, Gamakatsu, and Mustad.
Feeder Hooks for from the Owner
When it comes to good hooks, the Owner will be mentioned. And it so happened that if we are talking about fakes - also, first of all, the company Owner will be mentioned.
This manufacturer has become the de facto standard for sharpness and reliability. For about 50 years, the Japanese company Owner has been producing not only hooks but also fasteners, swivels, lines, wobblers, and other fishing accessories. Owner even has his own patented sharpening method.
The range of offered products is simply huge: from the smallest to super-reliable shark hooks. Only here in our stores, not to mention the markets, it is far from always possible to choose from all this assortment. But the most popular and beloved by many series are most often on sale in fishing stores in large cities, and even more so at various marketplaces.
As for the province, then the choice is very modest. It happens that it is not possible to find not only the desired model of feeder hooks but also models from the Owner in general.
The problem of counterfeit products is acute for Owner. Popularity, a considerable price, the desire of a fisherman to try the “sharpest and most reliable” hook from a well-known brand - these are the incentives for scammers. And as a result, reviews of disappointed fishermen about the poor quality of products from this brand are often heard.
Trusted fishing stores, ordering via the Internet in popular foreign online stores - this is what can help fishermen in the right purchase. Well, or just switching to other brands, which are less forged so far.
Which Feeder Hooks from the Owner are the best
We list the running series in ascending order of the series number:
Owner series 50001
Thin hooks with a spatula, blue. Owner positions them as suitable for Carp fishing. The nozzle can be both a dung worm and crawling out of grains. In short, everything that matches the number and the fish. The thin wire on this series gives a reason to use them for catching not very large fish.
Owner series 50152
The same model is already with a ring, and the ring is bent inward. They have short forearms. They are more suitable for fishing with a feeder for maggot, barley, corn, hominy, and other similar baits.
Owner series 50188
Excellent fishing hooks with a ring. Used by many anglers for both float and bottom gear. You can cling to them with various vegetable nozzles and animal baits.
Owner of series 50282, 50286
Very popular for the feeder hooks, similar to two series of spatula hooks. No. 14 is one of my most popular hooks. Although I do not like to be too small with numbers (may our gurus-athletes forgive me), for a bloodworm, there is no better for me.
Although, again, you can use the nozzle at your discretion. The hooks of this series are reliable and hold the fish well when playing.
Owner of the 50340 series
Spatula model. Available in three finishes: Black Chrome, Gold or Oxidize Gold.
For feeder fishing, numbers 10-12 are mainly used. Nozzle almost any that will match the number of the hook.
Owner of the 50344 series
Hooks are very popular for feeder. The string is bent and specially processed according to the “forged prying” method.
Identical series 50342, 50343, and 50345 differ in the coating. Popular #12-18. Bait can be anything. Excellent, durable hooks, they can be safely recommended for use.
Owner of series 50354; 50363
The manufacturer recommends them for winter fishing. But our fishermen successfully use them for bottom fishing on the feeder. It has good hooks with a spatula and a round bend.
Series 50457 Owner
As you can see from the form - a model for using the worm. Has proven itself excellently.
Series 50922 Owner
Popular series with a ring. They have a slightly beveled rounded bend and a ring. Nozzle - almost any.
Owner Series 50921, #10-14
Another great series with a ring. Best suited when using a worm, but can be caught with other baits.
53100 Series Owner
Excellent all-purpose hooks with a long shank, round shank, and spatula. My running number for the feeder number is 12. The nozzle can be very different.
Series owner 53157
Brownish, unusual shape. A short hook and a beveled turn give this hook the ability to hold a wide variety of baits. Popular #10-12. Worm, maggot, corn, pearl barley - in short, everything that our fish can like.
This is such a rather big selection of hooks for the feeder from Owner. It may seem like an advertisement, but what can you do, you can’t hide the popularity.
In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to find a real Owner, and other manufacturers offer models that are not worse at all. So let’s turn our fishing eyes to the remaining three manufacturers.
Feeder Hooks from Kamasan
Another Japanese manufacturer of quality fishing hooks is Kamasan. For the feeder, Kamasan hooks may be even more popular than Owner hooks. Recommendations from well-known feeder experts could not but affect the choice of models from Kamasan. There are only a few popular series, but they more than cover all the needs for feeder fishing.
Kamasan B525 Series
The reliable, hooky model with a ring. The manufacturer positions them as floats, but as practice shows, they are also great for bottom fishing on the feeder. About bait, they are also universal.
Kamasan B532 series
Red hooks with a spatula. Made from thin wire. Great for worms and bloodworms. Perfect for feeder fishing. You can catch white fish and carp.
Kamasan B651 series
Reliable for feeder fishing. They have a rounded shape, a small forearm, and a shoulder blade. Can be used for various nozzles.
Kamasan B980 series
One of my favorite hooks. Numbers 4-6 can be used on carp. Smaller size for crucian and white fish. The large diameter of the wire gives increased strength. Suitable for filling a bunch of worms and various grains. I recommend.
Kamasan B983 series
Also a very popular series. Curved sting and short forearm. Universal for different nozzles, perfectly got accustomed to the equipment. I use numbers from 4 to 16.
Feeder Hooks from Gamakatsu
So, we come to the third Japanese manufacturer of fish hooks, Gamakatsu. It just so happened that Japanese wire has become one of the standards for quality fishing tackle. The history of the company has more than 55 years. During this time, the company has gone through a huge development: from hand-made fishing hooks to several modern factories for the production of various fishing accessories spinning rods, clothes, regular and special feeder lines, etc.. In the European market, Gamakatsu also operates under the brand name Cipro.
Many Feeder hooks models from Gamakatsu have also taken root perfectly for the feeder. Affordable prices and excellent quality attract many anglers. For feeder fishing I mainly use:
Gamakatsu LS-1010B Series
Very hooky hooks with minimal dropouts. They have, in my opinion, the optimal wire thickness. They can cling to maggots, various grains, and bloodworms. This series is with a spatula and with a brownish finish.
Gamakatsu LS-1040R Series
A catchy series with an elongated forearm, spatula, and a reddish tint. I use from 12 to 16 numbers mainly for scavengers and crucians.
Gamakatsu 3510F Series
Like the previous two series, it is very popular for feeder fishing. Short handguard and slightly curved sting. Versatile for various nozzles. The most popular is #8-12.
Gamakatsu LS 3524F and F22 series
Probably one of the best series ever. The unusual shape and thin wire make them self-hooking. Most often I use #8-16. They are perfectly caught with feeder gear for silver bream, crucian carp, carp, bream, and roach. It is very good to use barley grains on them. I usually plant (depending on the number) 2-5 pieces. The shape contributes to the good swallowing of such a nozzle by the fish. You can successfully plant a worm and make combinations of several nozzles.
The only negative is that it cuts the lip of worthy specimens of fish.
Gamakatsu LS-3614F Series
Universal hooks. Almost any bait. They keep their sharpness well, the thickness of the wire copes with good specimens of fish.
Gamakatsu G-Method Feeder and Feeder Strong Series
Specially designed series of feeder hooks. Also very good hooks. Holds a sharp edge well and is versatile for baits.
Feeder Hooks from Mustad
Well, here is the European representative of fish hooks. For more than 185 years, the Norwegian company Mustad has been producing hooks for fishing. To date, Mustad products are exported to 150 countries around the world.
The company’s factories are located in different parts of the world, which made it possible to make products competitive in price, without losing high quality. Many models are suitable for the feeder, but I would single out four series that I often use.
Series Mustad Feeder Hooks 60332BR/LP540
Excellent series. A small handguard and a slightly curved shape give them excellent grip. The nozzle can be any. Good strength, sharpness, and low price.
Superior Crystal Feeder Hooks Series 224
Reliable, sharp yellowish hooks with a spatula. More suitable for pearl barley, maggot, and corn. Designed for almost any fish, have a minimum number of gatherings.
Mustad medium feeder hooks 60126BLN/LP280 series
The Mustad medium feeder hooks 60126BLN/LP280 series is one of the most popular. Short handguard and optimal wire thickness make it possible to catch almost any fish. The nozzle can also be used in any suitable fish and hook sizes. Suitable for catching carp, silver carp, or bream.
Mustad 60332BR/LP540
Mustad feeder hooks series 60332BR/LP540 - They use thinner wire, which gives the feeder tackle more self-hooking. Great for white fish. The nozzle can be pearl barley, corn, dough, or bloodworm.
I hope that from this review the angler will be able to choose some excellent models. I repeat that almost any hooks can be used, the main thing is that they fit the size and property of the nozzle. This review is for guidance only. And now a little about the important problem of hooks:
Pay Attention for Fakes!
This is a really big problem for anglers. We are ready to pay for good products and do it, but in the end, it happens that in a pack from a well-known manufacturer there are blunt, easily unbent, so-called “hooks”.
Almost all manufacturers counterfeit. But mostly it affected the most popular brands. Counterfeits under the Owner, Kamasan, and Gamakatsu are easy to meet. I have not come across fakes under Mustad yet. Fakes are also of different quality. There are hooks with a very soft wire, bend your hands calmly. And there is nothing like that, only stupid from the moment of birth.
In some regions, it is almost impossible to find branded products suitable for the feeder hooks, but there are a lot of fakes for this company. Here you need to look for the best option. Even if you choose a series from Cobra (whose fakes are also common), they are sharp and durable.
I would recommend getting used to buying the same series , over time, when buying a fake from the original, it will be easier to distinguish. And try to buy hooks at the same proven points (suppliers rarely change).

There are a variety of feeder hooks available on the market, so it is important to choose the one that best suits your needs.
With a little bit of research, you can find the perfect feeder hooks for your next fishing adventure.
